ollowing earlier launches of the XC60 and V60 models, the revitalization of Volvo’s mid-sized 60 Series family is complete with the introduction of the all-new S60, a sports sedan that offers not only Volvo’s class-leading safety and design panache, but aims to set new standards of driving pleasure amongst its competitors.

This is a sports sedan to rewrite the story of driving. It is a car in which effortless performance meets intuitive technology, where a sophisticated chassis balances comfort and control, with a choice of driving modes putting you at the centre of a dynamic experience.

Inside, the all-new S60 is tailored around your needs – a place where connected, easy-to-use technology combines with the wellbeing that only human-centric innovation and elegant Scandinavian design can provide.

RE-INVENT‍‍‍ED

The all-new Volvo S60 reinvents itself as a dynamic sedan that will redefine the meaning of driving.

“It is a true driver’s car that gives us a strong position in the US and China sedan markets, creating more growth opportunities for Volvo Cars.”

Håkan Samuelsson

The new S60 is the first Volvo car to be sold without a diesel offer, signalling the company’s industry-leading commitment to electrification and a long-term future beyond the traditional combustion engine. In 2017, Volvo Cars was the first global car maker to announce its strategy that from 2019 all new models will be electrified.

The S60’s range of advanced, powerful, yet efficient 2.0-litre Drive-E petrol powertrains starts off with the turbocharged T5 engine providing a respectable 250hp going to the front wheels.

All other variants of the S60 come with all-wheel drive as standard. The T6 AWD model features a turbo and super-charged petrol engine producing outputs of 316hp, whilst the T8 Twin Engine AWD plug-in hybrid metes out a combined 400hp. The entire range comes fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Later on, the S60’s engine family will be expanded with the inclusion of yet another plug-in hybrid variant, this time in the form of the T6 Twin Engine AWD plug-in hybrid promising outputs of 340hp.

Electrified versions of ‍‍‍the new S60 also offer a performance handling upgrade called Polestar Engineered – developed by Volvo Cars’ electric performance arm, Polestar.

Polestar Engineered is available exclusively on the T8 Twin Engine ‍‍‍plug-in hybrid and is a complete offer that upgrades the car’s wheels, brakes, suspension and engine control unit, boosting the S60 T8 combined output to 415hp.

“The active chassis and drive modes deliver excellent control and an engaged performance that makes this a driver’s car.”

Henrik Green, Senior Vice President, Research and Development, Volvo Cars.

A New Model of Ownership

In selected markets, the new S60 will be offered to customers on a lease basis through Care by Volvo. Available in Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA, Care by ‍‍‍Volvo allows customers to simply choose their S60 online or in app and make all-inclusive, monthly payments that cover insurance, service, and maintenance.

The negotiation-free process starts with an online or in app deposit. Care by Volvo customers will be able to drive away from their local retailer in a new S60 without having to worry about the traditional extras such as down payments, maintenance and insurance. An annual mileage allowance accompanies tire and wheel damage protection, wear-and-tear replacements including wipers and brakes, and all factory scheduled maintenance.

Also included in the Care by Volvo programme is 24/7 customer care and concierge services, including roadside assistance. At the end of the subscription contract, there will be an option to change cars and sign up for a new 24-month subscription as early as 12 months into their agreement.

Safer, by Design

The new S60 shares Volvo Cars’ own Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology and infotainment system with the new V60 premium mid-size estate, launched earlier this year, as well as the top-of-the-line 90 Series cars and award-winning XC60, all of which have achieved industry-leading safety ratings. This makes the new S60 one of the safest cars on the road.

The City Safety with Autobrake technology assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions, and is the only system on the market to recognise pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. In a world first for the mid-size sedan segment, City Safety now also engages auto braking to mitigate oncoming collisions.

The optional Pilot Assist system – which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 130km/h – has been upgraded with improved cornering performance. The S60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake further enhances safety for people inside and outside the car.

Contemporary Craftsmanship

Purity, quality and fitness for purpose are the cornerstones of Scandinavian interior design and the interior of the S60. It is tailored for a spirited drive. The sleek centre display with touch screen is your intuitive command centre, while unique air vents have slender, metal-finished controls with diamond-pattern finishes. The same finish is used for the starter knob, driving mode controller and steering wheel controls.

R-Design trim highlights the athletic nature of the car, with Metal Mesh Aluminium décor panels and contrast stitching for the seats, tunnel console, doors and gearshift gaiter. Inscription trim includes decor panels in Driftwood, a unique wood treatment.

Volvo Cars seats are renowned for their long-distance comfort. The S60’s new-generation seats provide support that ensures occupants emerge feeling fresh after any journey.

Standard Comfort seats have power height adjustment as standard. Higher grade Contour seats – which are standard or optional depending on trim – provide even greater side support, as well as multi-directional lumbar support and an adjustable cushion extension.

Intuitive Control

A centre display with touch screen is at the heart of the effortless way to connect with the S60. It has a portrait format that makes reading information easy and reduces scrolling, while the 9-inch screen has a special non-reflective coating and is so responsive it can be used even while wearing gloves.

The S60 is available with a range of features that use the car’s connectivity services to make journeys simpler, helping occupants remain connected and enjoying their favourite music on the move. And, because every Volvo Cars innovation is designed around people, these features boast excellent ease of use.

Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, and keeps drivers connected at all times. The intuitive control is a tablet-style touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment apps.
