McLaren Elva makes debut in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 21st February 2022 – McLaren Kuala Lumpur today premieres the windscreen version of the McLaren Elva in the city. It is a stunning example of how designs from McLaren’s racing history are inspiring the brand’s modern-day customers. The windscreen Elva is designed for customers who prefer to have a physical screen rather than the barrier of air provided by the Active Air Management System (AAMS).

“The McLaren Elva is a stunning example of both McLaren’s history in sports car racing as well as boundaries pushing design principles. At McLaren, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible and to showcase the increasingly extensive range of performance capabilities and personalisation options we can offer to customers. It all begins with our founder Bruce McLaren. A racer, innovator and leader. His pioneering spirit lives on through the work we strive to accomplish at McLaren each day in his honour." - Paul Harris, Managing Director, McLaren Automotive, Asia Pacific and China.

“We at McLaren Kuala Lumpur would like to thank our Principal, McLaren Automotive, for making this Elva available to us. This is a testament to the importance that McLaren Automotive places on the Malaysian market and that of the owners and fans here in the country. It was a challenge to get the car here but in the end, it was well worth the time and expense. A real treat for all car enthusiasts.” - Ravinder Singh, Chief Operating Officer, McLaren Kuala Lumpur

The screenless Elva is McLaren Automotive’s lightest-ever road car and the target for the windscreen version is only 20kg* heavier, even with the inclusion of electronically synchronised rain-sensing wipers, washer jets and sun visors, as well of course as the heated glass windscreen within a carbon fibre surround. The Active Air Management System (AAMS) is deleted as it has no role to play in the windscreen car.

Just 149 examples of the Ultimate Series Elva roadster are available for customer order, making it one of the rarest McLarens ever produced and, with an almost-limitless degree of personalisation available from MSO, allowing each car to have its own unique identity.

The Elva, which follows the McLaren P1TM, McLaren Senna and Speedtail in McLaren’s Ultimate Series, links McLaren’s heritage to its past, present and future with a name and style that recalls the McLaren-Elva sports racers of the 1960s. These were among the first sportscars designed and raced by Bruce McLaren and the company he founded, and the Elva evokes the true spirit of driving enjoyment symbolised by this era.

While having had its own engineering programme to optimise aerodynamic and dynamic performance, the windscreen Elva shares all of the ethos and performance of the original car: neither has a roof, side windows or rear screen, which when combined with a dry lightest weight of less than 1300kg* and a mid-mounted, 815PS, twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, delivers the ultimate in driver exhilaration.

• 815PS and 800Nm from the twin-turbocharged V8 engine enables 0-100km/h (62mph) in 2.8s; 0-200km/h (124mph) in 6.8 seconds

• The windscreen Elva shares all of the ethos and performance of the original car
