MINI Electric

Redefining the iconic MINI go-kart thrill of driving with a fully-electrified experience for MINIacs in Malaysia.

MINI Malaysia today introduced the New All-Electric MINI for the first time in Malaysia – further expanding the premium electrified segment of the MINI portfolio.

“As a brand set in the cornerstones of passion, MINI continues to deliver maximum thrilling driving excitement, while innovating to provide a more sustainable go-karting thrill in this generation. For the very first time and in celebrating MINI’s 61 st Birthday, we are thrilled to bring this innovation into reality with the New All-Electric MINI. The New All-Electric MINI further expands the electrified line-up of MINI models here in Malaysia,” said Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

“Since we introduced the first electrified MINI model in 2017 with the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid, electrified MINIs have become a fan-favourite amongst MINIacs nationwide. In just 2019, MINI delivered close to 17,000 units of the MINI Countryman PHEV worldwide. This success drives our commitment towards electromobility even further, as it underlines the increasing shift towards electrified vehicles amongst MINIacs globally,” said Hoelzl.

The stylish minimalistic three-door hatch arrives with an electrifying new design language that sets the model apart in the MINI portfolio, while building upon the 60-year heritage of the MINI brand. The new three-door hatch is powered by the highly-powerful electric motor developed by the BMW Group that is capable of up to 184 HP and 270 Nm of torque – offering maximum thrill of the road without the carbon footprint.

The New All-Electric MINI can also be recharged up to 80% within just two and a half hours with the MINI Wallbox Plus. When driving, brake energy regeneration from decelerating the vehicle not only feeds back into the high-voltage battery but also allows for the vehicle to be driven using only a single pedal. The new three-door hatch is also the first MINI model to feature a 5.5-inch Digital Instrument Cluster for smoother accessibility to key driving information.

AUTOMOTIVE

An electrifying appeal.

Identical in size to the MINI Cooper S, the New All-Electric MINI features a brand-new electrifying appearance that is accentuated by elements in the youthful Energetic Yellow offering. The vehicle arrives with the model-specific bumper and radiator grille in Vigorous Grey with yellow E-Badge. Grille blades will be available in two colours: Vigorous Grey or Energetic Yellow.

With the Lights package, the new three-door hatch is equipped with Matrix LED headlights and LED rear lights featuring the iconic Union Jack design. Along the sides, the New All-Electric MINI features adapted spats geometry, the E-Badge on the side scuttle, as well as aero-optimised mirror caps in either Black or Energetic Yellow. Interior and exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle function also equips the vehicle as standard. The new MINI rides on 17-inch wheels in the MINI Electric Power Spoke two-tone with run flat tyres.

Powerful new features for the new MINI.

Part of the characteristic driving experience in the New All-Electric MINI is the single-pedal drive that also contributes to brake energy recovery. The electric motor functions as a generator during coasting mode, transforming kinetic energy into electric power – which then feeds back into the high-voltage battery within the vehicle. The New All-Electric MINI arrives with four driving modes: Sport, Mid, Green and the new Green+ mode – which increases the electric range by limiting selected comfort functions.

MINI Roadside Assistance.

The New All-Electric MINI and the New MINI John Cooper Works GP are covered by MINI Malaysia’s 5 Years Roadside Assistance programme, available for all new MINI vehicles with a comprehensive list of services that include a 24-Hour, 365-days-a-year Accident and Help on the Phone and On the Spot Hotline, Free Towing Services and when needed (over 200KM from residential home), Replacement Vehicle, Seamless Mobility, Accommodation, Mobility Services Solutions as well as Repatriation services.

The model badge and E-Badge with yellow accents are also fitted as standard to the new three-door hatch, along with the model-specific rear bumper with diffuser.

MINI Electric – comfort and style.

The new three-door hatch offers an exquisite new interior design language, crafted exclusively for the New All-Electric MINI. The model-specific designs include the MINI Electric Cockpit Fascia, MINI Electric Start/Stop button in Yellow, MINI Electric velour floor mats, an electronic selector lever with Electric design, as well as the brake energy recuperation toggle. The interior rear-view mirror with anti-dazzle function also equips the MINI as standard.

Driver and passengers of the New All-Electric MINI are also able to relax in comfort and style with the dual-zone automatic air conditioning, Leather Cross Punch seats in Carbon Black as well as the MINI 12-Colour Illuminated ambient lighting. The multifunction sport leather steering wheel and raised center console with integrated electric parking brake are also available as standard to the vehicle. Maintaining the same dimensions as the MINI Cooper S, the luggage capacity of the new three-door hatch is also 211 litres with the ability to expand up to 731 litres.

The specific design principle of the drive enables a high level of power development, which extends also into high speed ranges. An exceptionally high level of efficiency coupled with smooth, low-vibration running power is already available from standstill – which is characteristic of electric motors.

Reaching a maximum speed of 150km/h and a driving range of up to 234km (WLTP) or 270km (NEDC), the New All-Electric MINI is also capable of achieving the century sprint in 7.3 seconds. The new three-door hatch will also be driven with a single-speed transmission and integrated differential that maximises the go-kart feeling familiar of a MINI.

Maximum driving thrill, minimum carbon footprint.

The New All-Electric MINI is powered by the latest, highly powerful version of the synchronous electric motor developed by the BMW Group – a front-axle electric engine capable of 135kw/184HP, as well as a 12-module T-shaped battery unit with a net capacity of 28.9kWh. The New All-Electric MINI has a peak torque of 270Nm, and emits zero carbon emissions locally while consuming 16.8 – 14.8kWh per 100km of travel.

The New All-Electric MINI also features the actuator-contiguous wheel slip limiter (ARB) function which significantly improves traction by providing faster control. The function also reduces power understeering that usually occurs with front-wheel drive vehicles. The rear axle is configured to the front axle, which features electric-specific steering knuckles; this enables an electric-specific suspension setting in combination with the body-mounted wheelhouse liners.

A wealth of navigational information is presented via a 8.8-inch MINI Navigation System equipped with the full MINI Connected suite which includes Teleservices, Remote Services, Intelligent Emergency Call, MINI Online and Apple Carplay. The vehicle is also equipped with the Head Up Display, and offers a premium music experience in the form of the 12-Speaker Harman Kardon Sound System. Endless in-car entertainment is enabled via the wireless charging function for mobile phones.

For the very first time in a MINI vehicle, the New All-Electric MINI arrives with a Digital Instrument Cluster – which is capable of displaying key information on the charging status of the vehicle such as remaining time, percentage of charge, available range and also temperature outside the vehicle. It can also display the current MINI Driving Mode, which then calibrates the colour shown on the light ring in the central instrument accordingly – red (SPORT mode), white (MID) or green (GREEN and GREEN+).

Additionally, the digital instrument cluster also presents the driver with information on traffic sign detection reports and high-guiding directions from the navigation system. Telephone contacts and audio programme lists can also be accessed via the system.

All electricity, no emissions.

The New All-Electric MINI offers a range of charging possibilities, whether at home or at a public charging facility. When recharging at a DC charging station, the New All-Electric MINI only requires approximately 36 minutes to go from zero to 80% charge. The MINI Wallbox Plus offers an 80% charge in just two and half hours, similar to recharging at a public charging station. At home, the MINI can be charged to 80% in 12 hours with the yellow contingency charging cable, available with the vehicle. The charging progress of the New All-Electric MINI can be viewed on the inside of the charging flap.

Charging forward with intelligent assistance.

The MINI Connected app provides full transparency on the New All-Electric MINI’s status, and is able to also set a timer to ensure the vehicle is fully charged before the drive, as well as preconditioned to the set temperature while being charged. The app also displays personal driving statistics and tutorials to help improve the driver’s skills for efficient driving.

The New All-Electric MINI is also the first MINI model in Malaysia to be equipped with the Driving Assistant system. This camera-based driving assistance system package consists of the Speed Limit info, as well as the digital high-beam assistant which automatically activates at speeds of 50 km/h and higher, or when there is insufficient exterior lighting.

The MINI eDrive is also a state-of-the-art technological addition to the New All-Electric MINI – giving the vehicle intelligent digital services and functions for a hassle-free drive. The Green Driving Assistant (GDA) provides useful onboard functionalities, such as the Range Assistant that presents different solutions to the driver in case of insufficient battery. It is able to suggest a more efficient route (Green Route), driving mode or the nearest charging station, so the driver can still arrive at their destination. The range circle also displays the range within the selected driving mode in the map.

The Driving Assistant system is also equipped with the person warning with light city braking function and the approach control warning with light city braking function – both ensuring maximum safety during potential collision by preconditioning the brakes for faster brake response and shorter braking distances. If the impact cannot be avoided, the braking functions help to reduce the impact speed.

The New All-Electric MINI is also equipped with the Park Assistant, front and rear Park Distance Control, Cruise Control with braking function, along with the Wired packages as standard.

Exterior colour offerings of the New All-Electric MINI include the exclusive White Silver with Energetic Yellow pairing, the British Racing Green, and the Chili Red.

MINI John Cooper Works GP

Fastest MINI ever arrives in Malaysia on its birthday to deliver highly emotional driving passion inspired by the brand’s legendary racing successes. Limited to 10 units only.

MINI Malaysia has introduced the New MINI John Cooper Works GP, the most powerful MINI GP ever built for a track-worthy go-kart feeling.

“In MINI’s 60 years of gracing both the racetrack and the streets, we continue to be revelled for our legendary racing success that took the industry by storm in 2006. Today, 14 years on, designers and engineers at MINI are paying tribute to the first MINI John Cooper Works GP once again with the successor – the fastest and most powerful MINI GP ever built. With only 10 units made available for MINIacs in Malaysia, we look forward to the New MINI John Cooper Works GP setting new benchmarks for performance in the premium compact car segment,” said Harald Hoelzl, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.

The exclusive character of the New MINI John Cooper Works GP is uncompromisingly geared towards extreme driving pleasure. This is expressed in both the engine and the performance characteristics. An intense, purist race feeling is conveyed by what is by far the most powerful engine ever used in the compact premium car, suspension technology that is fine-tuned based on John Cooper Work’s comprehensive racing expertise and a body that is optimised in terms of lightweight construction, torsional stiffness and aerodynamics.

The New MINI John Cooper Works GP spearheads the MINI and John Cooper Works model range with a massive 306hp and 450Nm of maximum torque, pushing its racing genes to the extreme. With limited units available, this extraordinary two-seater comes with the most exclusive design feature and the most impressive technical package.

Embracing the MINI racing genes with a purist approach.

The MINI John Cooper Works GP is available exclusively in Racing Grey metallic, with the roof and exterior mirror caps finished in the contrasting Melting Silver metallic. The hexagonal radiator grille, the inserts in the lower air intake and the inside of the roof spoiler finished in high-gloss Chili Red leaves an aggressive impression for the MINI John Cooper Works GP. This is accentuated by the GP insignia stylised in Rosso Red metallic matte on the front and rear, the outer sides of the roof spoiler, foils above the side skirts and the door sill finishers.

This is contrasted by the black finish of the headlight and rear light surround, the central radiator grille, the door handles, the fuel filler flap, the inlay on the bonnet and the MINI logo at the front and rear of the vehicle. Likewise, the black inlays on the headlamps and the darkened Union Jack rear light units emphasise the uncompromising sporty flair of the New MINI John Cooper Works GP.

Inside, the New MINI John Cooper Works GP is equipped with John Cooper Works sports seats in Leather Dinamica with silver side edges, red accentuation seams, a GP badge underneath the integrated headrests and red belt straps. The interior trim on the passenger side bears the numbering of the respective vehicles, produced individually for each one of the 3,000 units using 3D printing. The 3D printing process also developed the features on the model-specific John Cooper Works Leather Steering Wheel including the metal centre marking for the 12 o’clock position, as well as the shift paddles. In addition to the GP logo, a characteristic honeycomb structure can be seen on the paddle surfaces.

The New MINI John Cooper Works GP is fitted as standard with 18-inch lightweight forged wheels that weigh less than nine kilogrammes. The hub caps on the exclusive wheels bear the GP logo. The vehicle’s aerodynamic properties also include the large and strikingly flared wheel arch trims, manufactured through a special process and with a material combination used for the first time by the BMW Group. This consist of a thermoplastic substructure and an outer shell made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The New MINI John Cooper Works GP is the BMW Group’s first production vehicle to feature an exposed matte CFRP coating. The individual numbering with the numbers “0001” to “3000” is applied to the surfaces of the front wheel arch panels by means of a newly developed paint transfer process.

Impressive source of power.

The New MINI John Cooper Works GP comes with the most powerful engine ever fitted to a series-produced MINI 3-Door. The powerful two-litre, four-cylinder engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo, paired with the eight-speed Steptronic transmission with mechanical differential lock produces 306 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. This powerful car is capable of making the century sprint in just 5.2 seconds, and has a maximum speed of 265km/h. With a time of less than eight minutes at the Nürburgring, the New MINI John Cooper Works GP is significantly faster than its predecessor.

Model-specific modifications to the engine include a reinforced crankshaft with enlarged main bearing diameter, specific pistons, bushless connecting rods and a new torsional vibration damper with optimised cooling. The extreme performance is also achieved by a newly developed turbocharger integrated into the exhaust manifold and fitted with a divert-air valve that helps optimise response. The intake air duct has also been newly developed. Enlarged inlet and flow cross-sections and the increased volume of the noise damper ensure maximum dethrottling.

The latest generation of petrol direct injection is also conducive to spontaneous power development. The new multi-hole injectors, arranged centrally between the valves, can cope with an increased flow rate, transporting the fuel into the combustion chambers at an injection pressure of up to 350 bar. The MINI TwinPower Turbo technology also includes Valvetronic fully variable valve control and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing.

The New MINI John Cooper Works GP features a model-specific engine oil sump with increased volume and distinctive geometry. This ensures a reliable oil supply at all times, even during extremely sporty driving involving high levels of longitudinal and lateral acceleration.

Meanwhile, the latest generation of the transmission features increased internal efficiency and an extended spread. The torque converter clutch, which is closed immediately after set-off, ensures a direct engine link and a spontaneous driving feel. A new transmission control system enables a particularly sporty shifting strategy, with sharper brake downshifts and direct multiple downshifts during forceful acceleration.

Increased engine speed level, direct feedback on shift commands and a further increase in shift dynamics are also noticeable in automatic sports mode (DS transmission mode). The acoustic comfort is optimised by a newly developed torsion damper. The eight-speed Steptronic transmission is operated via a model-specific electronic gear selector switch.

Manual intervention in gear selection is also possible using the standard shift paddles on the steering wheel.

Model-specific suspension set-up, DSC with GP Mode.

In the course of an intensive testing programme on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and other racetracks, the New MINI John Cooper Works GP was precisely tuned to the car’s extremely high engine output. The model-specific versions of the single-joint sprint strut for the front wheels and the multilink rear axle were also optimised with regards to component stiffness. The track widths were increased, and the body lowered by 10 millimetres compared to the MINI John Cooper Works to increase agility.

The suspension also features specially tuned suspension springs and adapted auxiliary springs, dampers and stabilisers. Newly designed swivel bearings enable increased camber levels on the front and rear wheels to increase the potential for transmitting lateral forces during dynamic cornering. Stabiliser bearings on the front and rear axles with particularly high preload optimise roll support during spontaneous steering movements.

The precise handling characteristics of the New MINI John Cooper Works GP are enhanced by stiffer rubber bearings in the support bearings of the front and rear axles. The four wishbones on the rear axle are fitted on the outside with clearance-free metal ball sleeve joints instead of rubber mounts, while on the inside there are highly rigid rubber mounts. The strut in the engine compartment is bolted directly to the support bearings of the front axle.

Advanced infotainment systems.

The MINI Visual Boost comes as a standard with Navigation System in the New MINI John Cooper Works GP, displaying model-specific information on the 8.8-inch screen in the central instrument panel. The standard trim also includes a black panel digital instrument cluster on the steering column. The high-resolution 5-inch colour screen shows the road speed both numerically and on a scale, as well as model-specific display including temporary feedback and permanent display after activation of the GP mode.

This MINI Visual Boost can be operated via the intuitive touchscreen, the MINI controller or the Voice Control. Owners can also connect their iPhone wirelessly to the vehicle and use the MINI Visual Boost to access numerous features on the phone with Apple CarPlay. Wireless Charging is also available to ensure mobile phones are always charged. The New MINI John Cooper Works GP is also equipped with MINI Connected that features Intelligent Emergency Call, MINI TeleServices and Remote Services.

The New MINI John Cooper Works GP is available exclusively in Racing Grey metallic and in limited units at selected authorised MINI dealerships nationwide.

Colour accentuations are provided by the red GP logos on the floor mats, matching double stripes on the gear selector and the Chili Red painted aluminium cross-brace behind the seats. This serves as a shield to prevent luggage items from slipping forward in the event of sudden braking.
