Fifteen to do battle in eRacing Grand Prix SEA final stage

PETALING JAYA 19th August 2019 – The eRacing Grand Prix SEA 2019 competition is nearing its peak as 15 competitors qualified to the finals after coming through the semi-finals which took place at 3 Damansara Shopping Mall last weekend.

In the competition that involved 45 drivers, the competitors were divided into three groups (red, blue and green) in order to secure the top five slot which guarantees them a spot in the final stage of the championship at the end of this month. Four races were held to give the drivers a chance to earn points to make the top five in each group.

With the aim of transforming virtual racers into real-life champions, the eRacing Grand Prix which was introduced in Hong Kong last year, has also received tremendous response in Malaysia thanks to the efforts of former Formula 1 driver and founder of Axle Motorsport Alex Yoong who brought the championship to our shores.

Alex has been very impressed with the determined performances and intense competition exhibited by the drivers throughout the competition.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Afif Suhaimi, 25, who competed in the blue group, said that his competing in the eRacing Grand Prix was mainly to gain experience from fellow racers.

"I'm still new to this eRacing sport. I participated in this competition mainly for to gain knowledge from the other experienced racers," said Mohammad Afif. "Since joining eRacing, I have many new acquaintances, including many go-kart racers who have given me some very useful advice. For a large scale championship like this, I would usually train an hour or two a day. Normally, I would usually spend my leisure time playing video games with my friends at home.”

The top five drivers from each group will compete in the eRacing Grand Prix SEA final which will take place at 3 Damansara Shopping Mall on 31st August and 1st of September 2019.

Meanwhile, eRacing Grand Prix SEA has also gained valuable support from leading financial institution “Maybank” to be its main sponsor for this first edition.

Besides Maybank, the other sponsors are Umobile, JD Sports, Thrustmaster, Spritzer, Playstation, Whitebox Simulators, Royal Selangor and Razer for this competition.
